The Q and A day

There are two options for retirement from the Turkish Social Security Institution, or SGK.
I want to respond to two different questions today. The first question is from Janet. She asks:
“Dear Orhan,
“My partner is a Turkish national who has lived and worked in Britain for 10 years as a British citizen. He plans to return home to Turkey in the near future and would like some help answering some questions please.
“He recently visited the pensions/insurance offices in his hometown in Turkey to make enquiries about his pension but was left a little confused, so I am hoping you can help. He worked in Turkey for nine years as a sergeant in the army before moving to England, where he has worked for 10 years. We believe that he can pay a fee to the Turkish government to cover his missed contributions and the days/years he has worked in England will be taken into consideration for his retirement in Turkey. Is this the case and what does he need to do, what evidence should he provide from the U.K. to satisfy the Turkish government?
“In addition to this, I intend to go with him as his wife and work there, would I be entitlement to a Turkish pension and could the years I have worked in England be taken into consideration if I were to pay the applicable fee to the government. If so how do I apply and what documentation do I need to do so. Many thanks. Best regards, Janet.”
Dear Janet, your husband has two options for retirement from the Turkish Social Security Institution, or SGK. Firstly, he can pay a fee to the SGK for his work in England to be taken into consideration for his retirement in Turkey. He must apply to the Kamu Görevlileri Emeklilik İşlemleri Daire Başkanlığı (a unit of the SGK) for this option. This unit is located in Kızılay, Ankara.
The second option for your husband is to join the services. According to the Turkey-UK bilateral social security agreement, if a worker has worked in both countries, all of their work is taken into account while retiring. With this option, your husband does not have to make any payment to the SGK. He can apply to any SGK city office for this option. For both options, he must certify his work in the UK from official authorities.
The second question is from Jana. She asks about the residence and work permit.
“Dear Sadettin,
I would like to ask about the residence permit and work permit in Turkey. I found your articles on the Internet, so I am writing you.
I am from Slovakia and next year, I would like to move to Turkey and find a job there. Here is my problem, if I want to work in Turkey, firstly I have to get a work visa and after ask for the residence permit? Or the residence permit allows me to work in Turkey too? Or can I ask for the residence permit and when I will find some job then have to ask for the work visa?
I am really confused about this all, so I would be really thankful and glad if you can help me. Thank you really so much for answer. Jana.”
Dear Jana, if you want to work in Turkey, first you have to apply for a work permit. If you receive the work permit, then you can apply for a residence permit. So, first you should apply for the work permit.
