The Q & A day
Answers to your questions about insurance and benefits.
I have received many questions about different issues. I replied to some of them by e-mail. Others are answered here.
Will compulsory UHI be postponed?
The first question is from Mr. Anderson and about Universal Health Insurance. He says:
“Dear Orhan,
In a previous article, you wrote about compulsory Universal Health Insurance postponement. Is this postponement enacted?”
Dear Anderson, compulsory UHI, most likely, will be postponed until December 2012. However, the Turkish Parliament has not approved this decision. When this delay is official, I will inform you.
Is European insurance card valid in Turkey?
The second question is from Merlyn and about European Health Insurance Card. She asks:
“Dear Sadettin,
I have a European Health Insurance Card. I can use it in European Union countries. Can I use it in Turkey, too? Thanks.”
Dear Merlyn, unfortunately, the European Health Insurance Card is not valid in Turkey. In Turkey, for health insurance, you can apply to the private or public health insurance system.
Can I take unemployment benefits?
The last question is from Mrs. Danny. She says:
“Hi Mr. Orhan. I have been working in a Turkish company since 2003. In these days, some workers are being dismissed. If I am dismissed, can I take unemployment benefits? What I should for take benefits? Best regards.”
Dear Danny, as an insured person, if you have worked for at least 600 days within the last three years, and if you have worked continuously for the last 120 days prior to leaving the job, you can take unemployment benefits. After leaving the job, you must apply to the Work and Turkish Employment Association (İş ve İşçi Bulma Kurumu) within 30 days.
Sylvia’s comment…
Lastly, I want to place a comment. Sylvia says:
“Dear Mr. Orhan, I do not plan to live in Turkey. However I have some friends who emigrated there and some who are considering going and living there, and I have assisted in their search for valid and reliable information about Turkish rules and regulations regarding foreigners – believe me – it was practically impossible, even when contacting the Turkish Consulate – whenever they bothered at all to reply to a phone call. I, therefore wish to express my appreciation of your articles, which take into consideration the various aspects of expatriates necessities (or those taking into consideration the possibility to relocate), and your rare ability to explain everything in a clear and comprehensive manner, citing also the law and/or norms that applies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.”
Dear Sylvia, thank you for motivating comments.
