The Q & A day
Today, I want to respond to a few questions coming from you. Let’s start with first reader’s letter;
“Dear Sadettin; my wife has dual nationality of Turkish and British. We live here for most of the year and can we bring a car from the UK into Turkey? She doesn’t need a residency permit as she also has Turkish identity card but we can provide all the other documents. Question is can she bring a car in to Turkey and will there be anything to pay for? Thanks for your help. Kind regards. Dogan Kemal”
Dear reader, unfortunately, there are no specific regulations for dual citizens about bringing to car. So in this regard, dual citizens are subject to the same conditions with foreigners. According to 2010 figures, to bring your car to Turkey, you must consideration these costs:
· Transportation of the vehicle
· The Carnet fees to Turkey Touring Automobile Institution
· Security deposit (returned to you when you go abroad)
· Customs fees
· Insurance (green card)
· Tax fees
· Notary fees
Total costs vary depending on the type of vehicle, but for an average car you may pay up to about 6,000 euros.
Should I reapply for resident permit?
Let’s come to second reader’s letter;
“Hello Sadettin, I read with interest your article about resident permits. I have had a workers and resident permit for the past four years whilest working at an International school in Istanbul. I will leave the country for four weeks and then return to Istanbul two weeks before the expirary of the resident permit. Should I simply reapply for a resident permit or should I enter on a tourist visa and keep getting a new one every three months? I only wish to work at this school for one year. Sincerely yours, Sylvia.”
Dear reader, if you are going to stay a year in Turkey, you should get residence permit. After the expiry of your residence permit, it should be renewed. Persons who wish to extend this period must apply again to the security authorities within fifteen days of the expiration of their residence permits. You can also apply before your residence permits expire. As in the first residence permit, renewal application must be made to local security directorate (Emniyet Müdürlüğü). After your application reviewed by the directorate, if you do not have an allowing barrier, it will be renewed. When you apply with your passport and residence permit, delivery receipt will be given by the directorate. You must keep this receipt because when permit renewal came out, you will receive with this receipt.
